As part of the CATS LYNX Blue Line Extension project, Neighboring Concepts completed the design of the University City Pedestrian Bridge. This project included a new pedestrian bridge linking the 1500 space parking deck to the center aligned Light Rail Station. By spanning the southbound lanes of North Tryon Street and the LYNX Blue Line Light Rail a safe and convenient connection was provided for the public. The metal and glass skinned bridge negotiated both an elevation change and angled connection, providing a safe transportation route by maintaining pedestrian visibility for security as well as weather protection. In addition, the structure was designed to minimize the construction duration that would have to occur over the public street, thus reducing the traffic impact.
