Neighboring Concepts, in association with Gannett Fleming, provided station envelope planning for the Charlotte Area Transit System’s (CATS) Southeast and West Corridor Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS). The project team was tasked to provide design alternatives for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Light Rail Transit (LRT) options along the two alignments and – for the West Corridor – a streetcar mode alignment as well. Neighboring Concepts provided design, guidelines and cost estimates for station facilities for each of the alternatives.

The West Corridor planning took a long-term strategic approach to Charlotte’s transit system in view, providing Park and Ride facilities in easy access to I-485 and I-85 and creating a connection to the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The corridor thus connects Center City Charlotte and the regional transit system with the airport, which shall continue to be one of the region’s largest employment hubs, representing more than 18,000 jobs.
