District Courthouse Expansion (District Attorney)
700 E Trade St #200, Charlotte, NC 28202, USA
Commercial
In 2010 the District Attorney’s Office had grown exponentially, reaching nearly 90% of their projected growth for 2020. Neighboring Concepts worked with the Mecklenburg County Real Estate Services Department Project Manager and key representatives of the District Attorneys Office. The renovation project constituted the second phase of the adaptive re-use of the Mecklenburg County Historic Courthouse and expansion of the District Attorney facilities located in it. A major emphasis was placed on enhancing and complimenting the original 1926 Architectural design of the building. The renovation of the District Attorneys’ Office was necessary to support the daily operations of the office.
An unexpected decision was made midway through Phase I construction to move forward with a Phase II renovation that would largely affect work already completed in Phase I. In construction, bringing new ideas for internal structure and unexpected changes to the project scope, the Neighboring Concepts Team met the challenges head on. Phase-II design was fast-tracked, all affected construction areas were quickly identified and adapted, the new programmatic needs were all met and architectural drawings came back free of owner’s comments.
