Neighboring Concepts provided architectural design and construction administration services for the Mecklenburg County Pedestrian Bridge, a critical connection linking the Eastway Regional Recreation Center and the Ella B. Scarborough Community Resource Center (EBS CRC). Installed in February 2026, the 200-foot bridge spans the CATS Blue Line light rail and NCRR/Norfolk Southern rail lines, establishing a safe, direct link between two vital community destinations.

Having served on the design team for both the Eastway Regional Recreation Center and the EBS CRC, Neighboring Concepts brought a comprehensive understanding of the sites and their surrounding community context to the project, ensuring the bridge seamlessly integrates these two civic anchors.

Informed by community engagement, the project responds to a clear need for improved access to recreation, wellness programming, and essential health and human services. The bridge extends the reach of these resources, strengthening connectivity and supporting a more integrated, accessible neighborhood.

Installed during a coordinated overnight crane lift, the structure is anticipated to open for pedestrian use in late 2026 following final site and safety improvements.

Neighboring Concepts collaborated with CMTA, LandDesign, QCE, and STV to deliver the project.
