Stevens Creek Nature Preserve

15700 Thompson Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227, USA

Community

The Steven’s Creek Nature Center strives to take advantage of the natural amenities on the 275 acre site. Beginning with a meandering entrance drive that flows around large growth trees, the creek informs the overall experience for visitors with a strong emphasis on storm water management. Naturalized berms and rain gardens serve as just a few of the integrated educational tools to help teach children about water cycles and creek health. The entrance path to the building floats over the rain gardens, immersing the visitor’s senses with experience of water. The building draws the visitor in, engaging them with educational experiences, and then encouraging them to return to the primary focus of the site and the learning opportunities it provides. The Nature Center includes community meeting rooms, youth classrooms, offices, a technology and education center, as well as a warming kitchen. Site amenities include trails, picnic shelters, rain gardens, and a fire pit. Similar to the future Eastway Regional Recreation Center, Steven’s Creek Nature Preserve is a master planned complex which takes advantage of natural resources while providing an innovative and efficient building to suit the needs of the client.
