The Purposeful Walk
905 Pearl Park Wy, Charlotte, NC 28204, USA
Urban Planning & Design
The Purposeful Walk is a memorial ribbon that reconnects the community of Brooklyn to its historic and cultural roots. Physically, it connects the heart of historic 2nd Ward to Pearl Street Park through authentic storytelling that honors the community, a community entirely displaced from 2nd Ward due to 1960s Urban Renewal projects. As this multi-use trail weaves through The Pearl District, Charlotte's rising medical research and innovation district, it is activated by art installations, gathering spaces and narratives from Brooklyn residents who once lived here. It is these rich histories, stories, and memories, both joyful and tearful, that form the foundation of a living outdoor museum that aims to inspire both the current and future generations.
