Cathy Morrison

Cathy Morrison serves as the Chief Executive Officer for Neighboring Concepts and brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership experience from her nearly 20 years in architecture and urban design. She leads with purpose, guiding the firm through complex projects that prioritize community impact and equity. Her leadership is evident in the way she builds strong teams, fosters long-term partnerships, and ensures design decisions reflect the needs and values of the people they serve. Cathy is recognized for her work in community-centered design, equity in the built environment, and transformative public infrastructure. Her work spans healthcare, transit, education, and civic spaces, all anchored in inclusive engagement, contextual sensitivity, and sustainable design strategies.

Under her leadership, Neighboring Concepts has become synonymous with innovation and inclusivity. The firm has been honored with the AIA NC/NOMA award for Equitable and Inclusive Firm Practices, reflecting Cathy’s commitment to sustainability, diversity, and empowering underrepresented communities. Her work continues to inspire and redefine architecture’s role in building thriving, equitable communities.

Beyond her practice, Cathy is deeply committed to public service. She currently serves on the City of Charlotte’s Business Advisory Committee and the board of directors for Nourish Up. She also leads in the profession as President of the North Carolina Board of Architecture and Registered Interior Designers and as NCARB Region 3 Director.

Cathy’s professional and civic leadership has earned her numerous honors, including the NCARB President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, AIA North Carolina’s Deitrick Service Medal, and the AIA Charlotte Citizen Architect Award. In 2025, she was elevated to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects. Cathy's journey as an Architect began by earning a B.S. in Architecture from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2007 and a dual master’s degrees in Architecture and Geography from UNC Charlotte.
