A Bit About

Luke Volkmar

Luke Volkmar serves as one of the four Principal Architects at Neighboring Concepts. Luke's educational background focused largely on urban settings, targeting development, planning, transit, and sustainable design. With a ceaseless work ethic, absolute attention to detail, and natural ability to help clients realize their visions, Luke is an invaluable member of the Neighboring Concepts team.

At Neighboring Concepts, Luke focuses on the overall mechanics of the firm, including business development, budgeting, and day-to-day operations and leads for the firm's transit portfolio and projects, ensuring that they are completed to the highest standards and remain within budget. With almost 20 years as a licensed Architect, Luke brings experience across a wide range of transit projects, including CATS LYNX Light Rail lines, Streetcars and Trollys, in addition to Wake Bud Rapid Transit system.  He strongly believes in the power of designing transit that empowers and elevates communities by connecting people and places.

Luke graduated cum laude from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with a Bachelor of Architecture. He's been recognized as AIA Charlotte's Emerging Professional of the Year, and selected for Community Building Initiative's Leaders Under 40 (Class I). His design leadership has contributed to many award winning projects, such as AIA Charlotte's Design Merit Award for the Eastway Regional Recreation Center. Additionally, the CATS LYNX Blue Line Extension receiving the Best Project Awards from both ENR Southeast and Carolinas-AGC.
